Living in Tambaram

Tambaram is the big southern suburb where Chennai's GST Road corridor meets the suburban railway. It is a town in its own right, with its own corporation, a major railway station, markets, colleges and an Air Force station, and it is the first choice for buyers who want lower prices than the city with a fast train to work. Administratively it falls in Chengalpattu district, but for daily life it is part of Chennai.

Getting around

• Rail: Tambaram station is a hub on the Beach to Chengalpattu suburban line, with frequent EMUs to Guindy, Egmore and Beach, and express trains that start or stop here.

East and West Tambaram

East Tambaram is more residential, with Madras Christian College, Selaiyur, Sembakkam and Camp Road, and it leads towards Medavakkam and Velachery. Both sides have schools, hospitals and daily markets.
